How VA Combined Ratings Work

The VA doesn't simply add your individual ratings together. Instead, they use a unique formula based on "efficiency." Each condition is calculated against your remaining efficiency (100% - current rating).

Example: If you have 50% PTSD + 30% back pain + 10% tinnitus:
Start with 50% → Add 30% of remaining 50% = 15% → 50 + 15 = 65%
Then add 10% of remaining 35% = 3.5% → 65 + 3.5 = 68.5%
Final rating rounds to 70% (VA rounds .5 and above up to nearest 10)
